In January 2014 Ofsted said: ‘The school's 'Cornerstones' curriculum is central to pupils' increasingly good achievement. Exciting themes, such as 'Why is Water Wet' or 'Flight', stimulate pupils' curiosity and eagerness to learn in a range of subjects. Pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is promoted well through such topics and thought-provoking assemblies.’
We continue to use the Cornerstones Curriculum from Foundation Stage through to Year 6 and our children love it. It covers English, Art, Geography, History, Science and Design and Technology.
Our children follow the ‘Come and See’ programme of study for Religious Education as recommended by the Diocese of Hallam.
We use Abacus Evolve for our maths curriculum but this is also supported by Big Maths materials and Cornerstone’s assessments.
Our staff use the Sheffield STAT assessment tracker to measure progress for each child as an ongoing activity reporting results at the end of each term.
We are also a Read Write Inc school and use the programme to teach our children from Foundation Stage onwards to be able to read, write and spell accurately in small groups matched by ability, Tuesday to Friday every week. We use the phonics element of Read Write Inc daily in Foundation and KS1.
For further details on what your child is doing in class please see the individual class pages where you can view the medium term planning.
