Our first topic in RE is Homes.
We have been thinking about what the difference between a house and a home is. We have read St Paul's letter to the Romans and made flowers to remind us the advice he gave us to help us grow into loving members of God's family.
We then thought of the qualities we felt were important in a family. Some of the popular choices were giving one another time, love, care and kindness.
We turned our ideas into a beautiful display.
Welcome to Year 3
We have made an amazing start to Year 3! Thank you for your hard work over the summer. Our display looks fantastic with your dream jars!
This term, the children will be studying the text BFG by Roald Dahl. We will use the text to structure our English lessons, and be starting the term by writing our own opening to the story. We will then use the BFG as a stimulus for character descriptions, newspaper articles, informal and formal letters.
BFG will form the basis of our topic lessons too. In Art, we will learn to draw in the style of Quentin Blake and produce our own BFG drawings. We will study the work of Salvador Dali and his Surrealism paintings.
In Geography we will look at maps and atlases and be able to talk about the locations of different countries. We will study different landscapes and compare them to our own. We will create our own Giant Land, before drawing maps of it and using compass points to locate key features within it.
Lush will be coming in to do a workshop making bath bombs with the children. This will allow us to create our own bath bombs and learn about the secret work Lush do to create their products.
The children will also visit Grimm and Co for a writing workshop.
In Design Technology, we will be making dreamcatchers and evaluating our work with a partner.
Homework will consist of formal Maths or English. This will be set each Friday and due back by Wednesday. Spellings will also be sent each week.
Creative homework will be set over the Christmas and Easter breaks when our topics will change.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call in before or after school, or call the office to make an appointment.
