Communication, Language and Literacy
Children's communication and language development involves giving them opportunities to experience rich language environments. This will develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves, as well as, being able to speak and listen in a range of situations. This can then be developed to hear the sounds in words, linking them to letters and beginning to read and write.
We use Read Write Inc phonics at St Mary's, phonics builds the foundation for reading and writing skills. It teaches children to break down words into individual sounds. A short video to demonstrate how the individual pure sounds are pronounced can be found by clicking on the following link, Pure Sounds Examples.
Don't forget to subscribe to the Ruth Miskin YouTube channel to access lots of useful phonics learning tools.
