At St Mary's, Religious Education is central to our school community. Our educational mission is rooted in the call to love God with all your mind, heart, soul and strength, and to love your neighbour as yourself. This call to love is at the heart of the educational mission of every Catholic school.

Through Religious Education, pupils develop a secure understanding of faith, Scripture, religious teachings and traditions. Following the Religious Education Directory (RED) scheme, our lessons encourage curiosity, build knowledge and nurture awe and wonder. Our inclusive approach ensures that every pupil is supported to flourish and make strong progress throughout their time at St Mary's. 

 

Religious Education Directory (RED)
The RED is a spiral curriculum, revisiting key themes each year to deepen understanding. The six curriculum branches are:
• Creation and Covenant
• Prophecy and Promise
• Galilee to Jerusalem
• Desert to Garden
• To the Ends of the Earth
• Dialogue and Encounter
These branches guide pupils through an evolving RE journey in Catholic schools.

 

World Faiths

At St Mary’s, we value and respect all faiths and traditions, creating an inclusive environment where every child can grow, develop and flourish. As part of our teachings this year, children will be exploring Judaism, Sikhism, Islam, Hinduism and some other Christian denominations enriching their understanding and appreciation of diverse beliefs. Right for Parents to Withdraw their Children from RE & Collective Worship

In England and Wales parents have the right to withdraw their children from RE lessons and acts of Collective Worship in schools. As parents you are not obliged to give a reason for requesting the withdrawal.

However, before exercising any right of withdrawal, we would recommend you discuss your concerns with the class teacher or Head of School.

Should a pupil be withdrawn from those learning activities/lessons, they will be directed to supplementary topic lessons instead.

Requests for withdrawals are made in writing via the school office
