Prayer and Liturgy

Prayer and Liturgy

Prayer and Liturgy are an integral part of our school day: the children pray together daily whenever they gather at the beginning of the day, before lunch, after lunch and at home time. The children take part in daily liturgies in a wide variety of ways including as a whole school, key stage, in their class, as part of our prayer group or with our parish community through Mass. The children actively lead liturgies themselves throughout the school and are given the opportunity to prepare spaces for prayer and worship, choose scripture readings, apply creative techniques to help them and their peers respond to the message of scripture and to identify how what they have reflected upon will shape their own thinking and actions as they work to achieve their mission.

We are really lucky to be able to work closely with our wonderful parish priest, Fr Basil to ensure that all of our pupils receive a rich spiritual education in line with the Catholic tradition. Our pupils' families are encouraged to attend special whole school celebrations.

"And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him."

                                                                                                                                     1 John 5:15

During Collective Worship we gather and hear the Word of God, but just as important, we act on that as models of Christ Jesus.

During the year, the school delivers special liturgies that reflect the Church's Calendar, such as Stations of the Cross, Ash Wednesday, The Month of May, Pentecost to name but a few.

Children are expected to take part, and to be respectful at this time.

As part of living out The Gospel in our school, children are awarded a 'Good Samaritan' certificate where one child each week from the whole school is chosen for showing how they have lived out the Gospel values and by following in Jesus' footsteps by being kind, supportive and going the extra mile to help each other. It is a special certificate and one that all the children try their very best to earn!
