World Faiths
At St Mary's, we are committed to providing our children with a rich understanding of faiths from around the globe. We recognise the importance of teaching our students to respect the beliefs of individuals from various faith traditions. By engaging in open and respectful dialogue with all members of our community and local faith leaders, we aim to nurture an environment that fosters understanding and compassion.
Our curriculum takes a structured approach to exploring major world religions, including: Judaism, Sikhism, Islam, Hinduism, and various Christian denominations. Each year group focuses on a specific aspect of these religions, ensuring that our children develop a well-rounded understanding:
EYFS: Traditional stories and clothing
Year 1: Special days and rituals
Year 2: Prayer traditions
Year 3: Places of worship
Year 4: Holy books
Year 5: Beliefs and festivals
Year 6: Values and belongings
To further enrich this learning experience, we hold a "Celebration of the Word" for each world faith. This event celebrates what our children have learnt, highlighting our differences while also recognising the links and similarities that connect us all.
