Our Intent for Religious Education

Our Intent for Religious Education

At St Mary's, we provide our children with an education that promotes the dignity and the freedom of all those who belong to our school community, as being created in the image and likeness of God. We strive to ensure that Religious Education  experiences are dissimilar to other lessons in school, we creatively teach about the Catholic Faith, whilst instilling a culture of wonder, spirituality, reverence and awe. Our religious education lessons provide a welcoming, caring, safe Christian environment where children can develop self-respect, integrity, a sense of individual worth so they are able to co-operate with and show consideration and tolerance for others. We learn about God's love and explore our Christian responsibilities, so our children can learn about their unique place within the home, school and parish community.

Our curriculum is designed to raise pupils’ awareness of the traditions of other religious communities, in order to teach understanding and respect towards other faiths and the world around us. Visits and hands on experiences allow opportunities for children to explore and understand religions and their traditions and experience them for themselves.
