Religious Education is at the heart of the education we provide for our children at St Mary's. The topics we will learn about throughout the year are:

  • Myself (Domestic Church - Family)
  • Welcome (Belonging - Baptism)
  • Birthday (Advent/Christmas - Loving)
  • Celebrating (Local Church - Community)
  • Gathering (Eucharist - Relating)
  • Growing (Lent - Easter)
  • Good News (Pentecost - Serving)
  • Friends (Reconciliation - Inter-relating)
  • Our World (Universal Church - Stewardship)

We will also study other aspects Judaism, Hinduism and Islam in our Multi-Faith weeks.

EYFS have been learning about the coming of the Holy Spirit and wrote sentences to explain what happened on Pentecost Day. Using facial expressions and actions they retold the Pentecost story, showing Jesus's friends experiencing the coming of the Holy Spirit and sharing the Good News with each other. They even then made their own flame candles and headbands, decorating them with images of the fire and wind 🔥

Celebrating: As a class we discussed what a celebration is, the elements of a celebration and how people celebrate. As it's the start of a New Year, we decided to have our own celebration. The children coloured in bunting, designed new Year Cards and helped to make a cake which we enjoyed together 🎂

In RE, we discussed what the Parish family celebrate and what happens during these celebrations in a Church. During our visit to the Church we looked at the key features including a font, altar and a chalice. The children even designed their own stain glass windows in class
